A Sweet! Beginning
I grew up in a home that was always filled with the aroma of fresh baked goods wafting through the air and out to the garden, where I put on grand theatrical plays with my childhood friends.
My parents frequently had cocktail and dinner parties for glamorous guests ...entertaining them with sweet and savory delights, fresh flowers from the garden, and Sinatra on the turntable, of course!
It was from this auspicious beginning that I learned how to entertain, and eventually my epicurean interests took me to Europe. Through travel and taste, I taught myself various cuisines, and returned to America with a plan to introduce an uncommon approach of cooking and catering to the masses! Little did I know I'd eventually bake my mark on Hollywood.
L.A.
I did initially move west with the intention of seeing my name in lights, but soon realized I needed to make use of other talents to get by. My career as a chef took off when Max Mutchnick (the creator and producer of Will and Grace, as well as other major television shows) "discovered" me. It was with his encouragement and connections that a star was born. I began cooking for the biggest television shows and celebrities in Hollywood!
I replaced the bag lunch with a buffet to please the herbivore or carnivore so that cast and crew could dine as a family, Monday through Friday, with linen napkins, flatware and china. I delighted in feeding the writers and producers of Seinfeld, Will & Grace, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Weeds and That 70's Show, just to name a few! I cooked for many of the world's biggest celebrities and LA's top producers. My client list read like an invitation to the Oscars or Emmys. Demi and Bruce, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, Jay Leno, The Rolling Stones and even Mikhail Gorbachev!
Other music royalty include the Jackson's and the Osmond's.
Change is Sweet!
In 2004, I moved to Winter Park, Florida with my husband and two children, and opened Sweet! By Good Golly Miss Holly in July of 2008. By putting those simple flavors of childhood into my cupcakes, I put Sweet! by Holly on the map as a dessert destination. To celebrate my second year of business, I introduced another (literally) cool food craze - Self-Serve Frozen yogurt! 12 fresh flavors and 38 tantalizing toppings! A dream comes true for me… and for you!
